Yosemite

I had a few chance to sneak away and do some painting/ sketching while camping out in Yosemite. I would love to be back there again for some more time to draw and paint. I can see why people can get inspired walking among such epic space. Here are a few of the pieces I had fun with. These were done with Gouache on a small travelogue sketchbook.

Late Winter Date...

A late night sketch...I got sloppy and let the color got away from me and the perspective is all jacked. But it was fun to paint that water and the speeder.

and I wonder why he's parking the speeder so far from her...hmm.

enjoy.

Red Rain seemed Imminent...

This was started a while back but I reworked it after my friend/colleague Randy gave me many valuable inputs and suggestions on shapes/ forms and edges. I hope I have learned something on it. Time to move on.

Special thanks to Randy Bantog.

Sentinel

I finally decided to call this piece finished. I could have picked on this one and never be happy with it....in truth I am still not. I regret the static composition, and still very unsatisfied with the edges and lighting which are some of my many weaknesses.

Here I also post a process so to remind where it went wrong and what I felt have gone right.

...as all things must come to pass, it is time to move on.

The Climb

I have to put off the post that I told Jim Moore for a bit longer...sorry Jim ;) Things on that piece are not going as I wanted so I am taking a bit of a break from it to do something else...just to keep it fresh.

Beside...as you can see from recent posts, I have been on spaceship roll. So we'll just keep it going for a bit longer.

things are getting Harris around here...

been looking at John Harris again... i always feel small looking at his work.

I am trying to get the feel of the looseness and scale indication here in this piece... still can not get it. but I am learning.

another sleepless night.

66

well not really....these are some of the 66 cards that I did (the ones that sux the least). It was great fun and tough to do at the same time. The crew created these as chase cards for Topps Clone Wars cards. Many of my colleagues created some of the coolest art work u can find on a tiny little piece of paper...among them are BKO, Wayne Lo, Kilian Plunkett, Thang le, Davide Le merrer, Randy Bantog and Jackson Sze...all of whom you can find the link to their blog in the link section here. Enjoy.

Four, Three and Two

Being who I am, I do not discuss movies as much as I should on my blog. But here's a sledgehammer of a cinema...a devastating view of human desperation, stupidity, oppression yet at the same time a bright spot of sacrifice. The film has no technical flares but possesses a raw visual power that is exhausting but rewarding. It is not E for "everyone". But for those of you who don't mind working for your cinematic experience...I suggest you seek this out.

Regrets...

Someone might say that this painting is long overdue. Done outside of my comfort zone, I have never tried to paint in this style before and have always long for it. Nothing like certain level of emotional tie to the subject to bring that out of you. It's like an exercise in exorcism. Thanks to David McNeal for input.
